Even as the state government allocated Rs25,000-crore to education in its annual budget, it assisted 87,000 students get admissions in private schools under the provisions of Right To Education (RTE) Act in 2016-17, he said.
Education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said that the Shala Praveshotsav drive for primary schools (Standard-I to VII) is being extended to ensure 100% in class VIII, too, from the new academic session.

The state government has recruited 1.60 lakh teaching assistants, built 1.25 lakh classrooms, 30,000 school compound walls and 20,000 computer labs, taking advantage of technology, like tablets, said the CM.
The government plans to provide 2,500 virtual classes during this new session, he added.
GANDHINAGAR: Gujarat chief minister, on Thursday, said that the state education department will hold its annual Shala Praveshotsav-in rural areas from June 8 to 10, and in urban areas from June 22 to 24, in collaboration with other departments to ensure 100% enrolment in secondary schools from the new academic session.
Addressing district-level department officers though videoconference from Gandhinagar, the CM said that Prime Minister had initiated the Shala Praveshotsav drive as a celebration, when he was the chief minister of Gujarat.
